Glossary of Computer terms - PDF

Glossary of Computer terms http://freecomputerbooksforyou.blogspot.com/

As computer technology continues to change, a new vocabulary continues to evolve. The following glossary provides brief definitions of the key terms and concepts that are part of this vocabulary. The sources I consulted to update this glossary for the eleventh edition of The Gregg Reference Manual include Webster’s New World Computer Dictionary, 10th ed., Wiley, New York, 2003, and Microsoft Computer Dictionary, 5th ed., Redmond, Wash., 2002.

NOTE: When boldface type is used to highlight a word or phrase within a definition, it signifies that the
highlighted word or phrase is defined elsewhere in this glossary.

Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis - C++ Version

Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis - C++ Version

Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis

This book describes many techniques for representing data. These techniques are presented within the context of the following principles:

 1. Each data structure and each algorithm has costs and benefits. Practitioners need a thorough understanding of how to assess costs and benefits to be able to adapt to new design challenges. This requires an understanding of the principles of algorithm analysis, and also an appreciation for the significant effects of the physical medium employed (e.g., data stored on disk versus
main memory).

2. Related to costs and benefits is the notion of tradeoffs. For example, it is quite common to reduce time requirements at the expense of an increase in space requirements, or vice versa. Programmers face tradeoff issues regularly in all phases of software design and implementation, so the concept must become deeply ingrained.

3. Programmers should know enough about common practice to avoid reinventing the wheel. Thus, programmers need to learn the commonly used data structures, their related algorithms, and the most frequently encountered design patterns found in programming.

there is explicit coverage of some design patterns that are encountered when programming the basic
data structures and algorithms covered in the book.

Programming with C - Byron S Gottfried

Programming with C - Byron S Gottfried

BYRON S. GOTTFRIED is a Professor of Industrial Engineering and Academic Director of the Freshman Engineering Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his Ph.D. from Case-Western Reserve University in 1962, and has been a member of the Pitt faculty since 1970. His primary interests are in the areas of computer simulation, software engineering, and the use of new educational paradigms. He is the author of eleven college textbooks, including Programming with C, Programming with Pascal and Programming with Structured BASIC in the Schaum’s Outline Series.
Dr. Gottfried is an active participant in the American Society of Engineering Education. Dr. Gottfried is also the academic director of the Swanson School of Engineering Freshman Engineering Program, which involves the planning and delivery of the school-wide freshman engineering courses, Engineering 11 and 12. As a result, he has developed an interest in new educational paradigms, and has spearheaded the use of active learning for computer-intensive courses within the Swanson School of Engineering.

About of the book -
The book includes complete and understandable explanations of the commonly used features of
C, including most of the features included in the current ANSI standard. In addition, the book presents a contemporary approach to programming, stressing the importance of clarity, legibility, modularity and efficiency in program design. Thus, the reader is exposed to the principles of good programming practice as well as the specific rules of C. Complete C programs are presented throughout the text, beginning with the first chapter. The use of an interactive programming style is emphasized throughout the text.

C++ for C Programmers - JT Kalnay
J.T. Kalnay
JT Kalnay is an attorney and an author. He has been an athlete, a soldier, a professor,
a programmer, an Iron-man, and mountain climber.
JT was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Growing up literally steps
from the Bay of Quinte, water, ice, fishing, swimming, boating, and drowning were
very early influences and appear frequently in his work. Educated at the Royal Military College, the University of Ottawa, the University of Dayton, and Case Western Reserve University, JT has spent countless hours studying a wide range of subjects including math, English, computer science, physics, and law. JT (along with MC and KR) is one of the founding members of the Stone Frigate Military Academy English Society.

About of this book -

This book is not organized in a traditional chapter format. The book illustrate the important points of   C++ in an evolutionary manner. The programs are presented in an order that presents the simplest, most straightforward aspect of a new element first.
